Distinctive characteristics of legal writing separate it from other disciplines of academic writing. This dissertation investigates the writing support component of assistance for undergraduate law dissertation writing service student writers. Specifically, it explores how undergraduates develop their abilities to write high-quality legal scholarship. The researcher analysed student writing samples and conducted interviews with writing tutors, which revealed a number of common writing problems that lead students to seek assistance with their undergraduate dissertations in law. These problems are the construction of arguments, the accurate use of citations, depth of analysis, and the logical arrangement of a written document. The results demonstrate that successful law dissertation assistance in writing must have a disciplinary focus, rather than providing general assistance with writing, and that such assistance must meet the unique conventions of the academic writing of law. The researcher has developed a framework for incorporating writing assistance into the larger law dissertation assistance provided by law schools.
